Vertical Farming, Who Knew?
Strawberries are limited due to the early frost this year, tomatoes are contaminated, food prices are skyrocketing along with the price of gas, etc. I could go on and on about the issues we are having with food right now. Even with our technological advancements, we still cannot hide from the ugly side of Mother Nature. However, the idea of vertical farming caught my interest.
This type of farming builds upward rather than outward, reducing the amount of land needed for farming. The farming is more controlled and there are ways to recycle methane and use alternative sources such as solar energy. Check this type of farming out at http://greenupgrader.com/2057/vertical-farms-growing-up-sustainably/.
However, as with anything, there are always pros and cons. The unfavorable aspects of this type of technology are the questions of how it would be managed and if it would be feasible. While it might save land and provide a more reliable source of food, it would need a lot of energy and it doesn’t grow the food in the most natural of ways.
Regardless of its advantages and disadvantages, I think it’s always good to assess potential alternatives and keep brainstorming.
