Is There Lead in Your Water?
Lately lead has been found in so many things including children’s toys. However, have you ever considered checking to make sure it hasn’t found its way into your water?
Lead can enter your drinking water through the corrosion of pipes, solder, fixtures and faucets (brass ones) and fittings. Many older homes have lead pipes so when the water sits in the pipes more lead gets into the water. If you suspect that lead might be in your water, have your pipes inspected. In the meantime, install a faucet or use a pitcher filter that removes lead (make sure that the filter is approved by the NSF International). Another thing you can do is use cold water and allow the water to run before use to flush out any old water that has been sitting in the pipes.
Also getting a checkup at the doctor is a good idea. A blood test can help determine how much lead is in your body. TIP: Eating foods that are low in fat and high in calcium and iron prevent lead from storing in your body’s fat cells.
