Keep Your Pet Cool This Summer
Pets are susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke just like humans. During the warmer months, the following will help keep your pet safe:
- Provide fresh, cool water for your pet at all times, and make sure that your pet has access to it at all times. When taking your pet for a walk, keep a water bottle and dish in your car.
- If you keep your pet outside, provide shade and shelter. That way if they need to cool down, they can move into the shade.
- Do not leave your pet in a car unattended. Even if you keep the windows rolled down, it can get extremely hot in the car very quickly so don’t take chances.
- Allow the pet to take a nap or rest when needed. You don’t want them to get dehydrated.
Even if you don’t have a pet, you can still watch out for them. If you see that an owner has left his/her pet in the car on a hot day, go into the store and request that the manager call the owner on the intercom. Some people don’t realize how dangerous this is.
